Rafting the Fraser River

This summer I was a raft guide for Stellar Descents Whitewater Rafting, it could be classified as a dream job. I get to take extremely nervous and excited people down the river every day, up to 4 times a day if I’m lucky.

The Fraser river is one of BC’s finest whitewater runs. Located just to the north of Valemount and about an hour South of Jasper. It is a steady class 3 run with a class 5 drop in the middle, Rearguard falls. We start the run at Robson Shadows campground and cruise down the river until we get to the weigh scales.

The great thing about working as a white water raft guide is that I am able to take all my friends down the river anytime there’s space in the boat. So my sister Zoe came out a few times with her friends and I was lucky enough to take my Dad down the river when he came to visit.

These pictures are of my Dad and I running ejector rapid, just below Rearguard falls. You can tell it’s my dad because we rock matching beards and sunglasses. Near the end of the rapid one of my guests decided to take a little unplanned swim…. right in front of the picture site, how exciting!
